ArvinMeritor Showcases Light Vehicle Systems Solutions at IAA Motor Show
FRANKFURT, Germany (Sept.
14, 2005) — From the floor of Frankfurt, Germany’s IAA Motor Show, ArvinMeritor,
Inc.’s (NYSE: ARM) Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) business group
showcased a portfolio of new systems solutions designed to deliver improved
functionality and value-added customer benefits. The company will highlight its
latest Emissions Technologies, Aperture Systems and Undercarriage Systems
innovations from three product displays located in Hall 8, Stand
D25.
The Emissions Technologies
business leads the industry in supplying exhaust systems and emissions controls
for light vehicles. Proven competencies in thermal management, exhaust system design, packaging
and durability are a common thread connecting the company’s light and commercial
vehicle Clean Air Solutions strategy.
Aimed at light truck and passenger car
applications, the product display includes solutions already in production
including Hydroformed and Fabricated Diesel Engine Manifolds, and Gasoline Engine
Maniverters and Manifolds. All are designed to optimize engine performance.
Also showcased in the display is the new Diesel Fuel Vaporizer, announced today in a separate
press release.
The Aperture Systems business
consists of roof and door systems, as well as access control systems, and
electronics and motors. The core strategy of the Aperture business is to offer customers fully packaged
modules that save assembly time, while also offering enhanced levels of quality,
reliability and performance. Aperture solutions
on display at the show include:
Electronic Door Control Module (EDCM) – The EDCM integrates
electronic control functions previously found in two separate products into a
single module. It assumes control of the window operation, including express up
and down function, anti-squeeze sensing and prevention, and comfort closing
capabilities. It also handles control functionality for the electric, moveable,
memory, heated and fold-away door mirror, and indicator and courtesy lights.
Additionally, the EDCM has been designed to allow future integration of latch
electronics including lock, unlock, child locking, and hands-free or
electric-release operation. The Door Systems business group will soon begin
production of the company’s first EDCM for a popular European passenger car that
will launch in May 2006.
Glass Motion Module – This pre-assembled
module comprises the window frame, glass, motor and reinforcement beam, and can
greatly reduce door variety, assembly time and tooling costs for the OEM while
also increasing front passenger elbow room by up to 50mm. A selection of the
company’s world-leading modular and integrated door latches will also be
shown.
Large-Opening Roof Systems provide a tangible market
benefit to the OEM by responding to those consumers that seek more lifestyle
characteristics from their vehicles. ArvinMeritor’s latest iteration of this
product operates with three large panels and delivers a near-convertible
sensation without any sacrifices to noise, styling or comfort. This product is
currently available on a high-profile sport utility vehicle and is also
scheduled to appear on a major European platform by the end of the
year.
The Undercarriage Systems business, which was
formed in 2002, is one of the company’s many success stories – growing to an
estimated $600 million by 2008. It is one of a few Tier One supplier businesses
to have the technical, design, manufacturing and logistical expertise and
capabilities to provide complete suspension modules on a global basis. Undercarriage solutions on
display at the show include the Cross-Car Cradle Suspension Module
including an ArvinMeritor Steel Wheel, and the Coil-Over Shock Suspension Module, featuring the
company’s innovative adaptive damping system that increases safety and comfort
by actively adjusting damping forces in the shock
or strut.
ArvinMeritor’s
Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) business group posted $4.8 billion in sales during
fiscal year 2004, and employs 17,000 people at 75 facilities in 23 countries.
